The Villa Rusconi-Clerici in Verbania, is surrounded by a romantic style garden which is almost 200 years old. The original 19th Century villa was demolished, and in its place this one, with its Baroque style interior, was built. The architect was Giovanni Giachi from Milan. Cristina Biffi Pirinoli, who lived here, painted the lake scenes in some of the villa’s rooms. The grand staircase is of serpentine marble with an Art Nouveau style wood and wrought iron balustrade. There is a winter garden, a lemon house and a boat-house where kingfishers can often be spotted.
