Map

The Arena of Verona (L’Arena di Verona) is a magnificent Roman amphitheatre which was built in AD 30. The arena could seat 30,000 spectators and, in the best state of preservation, is the third largest such structure. Once games, and later jousting matches were staged here and their popularity attracted spectators from far and wide. The round façade was originally built in white and pink limestone from Valpolicella but suffered earthquake damage in 1117. It is now the largest operatic theatre in the world and the interior is open to visitors.
