Verbania is a little village but is grouped with Intra and Pallanza and collectively know as Verbania. This area is rich in history being a settlement of the early Romans. Not much of the early history remains – the town being now made up of mainly 18th Century buildings. One of the most exquisite is the Basilica of San Vittore, built on the site of a more ancient church, and is not to be missed. The nearby port is also very pretty retaining a lot of its old charm with the entrance guarded by a tall light with a spiral staircase.
