There are magnificent views over Verona from the Tower of the Lamberti. The 84 metre high tower can be entered through the courtyard of the Mercato Vecchio. Work on the tower began in 1172 and wasn’t completed until the mid 1400s. The bells were hung in 1295 and still have their original names and purposes - ’Rengo’ (to call the Council and the people to a meeting) and ’Marangona’ (to warn people of a fire). If you’re lacking the energy to climb to the top, you can take the lift!
