Venice’s Public Gardens – or the Giardini Pubblici – is the largest green space in the city. The garden was laid out by Napoleon I at the southeast end of the main island. The gate was designed by Giannantonio Selva, and the gardens, which were originally an Italian design, were transformed in the 19th Century into English gardens. Here you can wander among the Rococo and 19th Century statues and palms or find shaded sitting areas and other benches with views over the Saint Mark’s basin. The biennial international art exhibition takes place here every two years.
