The Palazzo Forti existed in the 13th Century and a wing of the building is named after Ezzellino III, a governor of Verona. The building was later modified by the Emilei family in the 1400s who transformed it into a residentila palace. Nelson stayed here during his Italian campaign and the palace had continually been passed down the generations of the Emilei clan. After the last of the lineage – botanist Achille Forti – the palace was willed to the local council. Now it’s the home of the museum of modern art.
