Palazzo E Giardini Estensi was built in 1760 and was once the home of Tommaso Orrigoni. In 1766 it was the summer residence of the Duke of Modena Francesco III d’Es. Re-modelled by the architect Bianchi, it has fine frescoes and other decorative work. There are Italian gardens that are open to the public which were modelled on those of Schönbrunn in Vienna, and which are considered to be the most beautiful in the whole of Lombardy. The gardens contain a large pool, walkways, lawns and flower beds. The palace is now the seat of the Town Council of Varese.
