Around Verona’s city walls there are traces of the Venetian defences, which replaced those of the Scaligere. The defences were reinforced with the building of 15th Century castles: San Felice and San Pietro. The walls show three different defensive systems: Medieval, 16th Century and 19th Century. They cover a distance of 10km and visitors can see them by car, or by bicycle, through the streets around the city’s circumference. They can also be visited on foot – via what remains of the ramparts, now turned into public gardens.
