The Le Cesine reserve covers an area of around 348 hectares and includes the beautiful WWF oasis. It can be found in the municipality of Vernole in the province of Lecce. Its name comes from the Latin Seges which means uncultivated or an abandoned area. This bears witness to the widespread medieval custom of exploiting wooded as cultivatable areas and then moving on. The reserve has two ponds filled with rainwater and separated from the sea by a strip of sand dunes. Take the guided tour that takes in the exquisite Le Cesine Manor House, built in the 15th-16th Century.
