The La Porta dei Leoni stands on the Via dei Leoni and is a fine example of Roman architecture dating to the late Republican period. The gateway is set in the city walls at the end of the ’cardo maximus’. It is similar the entrance of a gallery, with a rectangular courtyard and polygonal towers outside. The gateway has been renovated and restored to it original position in 1959. It is of brick and tufa with stone avant-corps added at the time of Claudius.
