The Il Monumento ad Aleardi was created in 1883 to commemorate the life of the Veronese poet Aleardo Aleardi. It can be found in the Piazza Santi Apostoli facing Corso Cavour. The poet took part in the defence of the Veneto Republic in 1848 and was twice captured by the Austrian authorities. He was a romantic by nature and reached the peak of his popularity with the publication of his Canti. Many of his works dealt with patriotic themes, which is recorded on the base of the monument ‘His poems inspired feeling of patriotism in the youth of Italy’.
