Piazza Umberto I in Vizzini is the old town centre. Here the Palazzo Verga and the Palazzo Comunale (Town Hall) stand. The Salita Marineo, close by, is a long flight of steps with lovely majolica decorations. St. Sebastian’s Church is Baroque, and Sant’Elena (Chiesa della Madonna Santissima del Pericolo), has an internal grotto complete with a precious 15th Century painting of the Virgin. Other churches include Santa Lucia (Chiesa della Santissima Annunziata) which has Baroque vault frescoes portraying the Saints, the Chiesa dei Cappuccini, the Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista, and the 1400s Santa Maria del Gesù.
