Gonzaga Palace in Volta Mantovana was built in the 15th Century by the Marquis of Mantua, Ludovico Gonzaga and his wife Barbara of Brandenburg. Now the Town Hall of Volta, it boasts valuable coffered wood ceilings with 16th Century decorations, and frescoes on the ground floor and first floor. The apse vault of the ancient Oratory also has valuable fresco work. The garden was created in the 16th Century over the moat of the fortified complex. The old stables in the square facing the palace are used for art exhibitions and cultural events.
