The Gavi Arch was moved from its original location. It was once sited near the Torre degli Orologi del Castelvecchio but was removed in 1805 because of structural problems and not re-erected until 1932. It was built in honour of the Gavi family in the early 1st Century A.D by architect, Lucio Vitruvio Cerdone and if you look closely you’ll find his name carved on one of the pillars. Later the structure was transformed into one of the city gates and it’s a rare example of an honorary Roman arch dedicated to private citizens.
