The gallery was once a church and convent and although building started in 1100, it wasn’t finished until the 14th Century. The Academy of Fine Arts was founded by the Napoleonic government and is now home to the largest collection of Venetian art in existence. Displayed here within the 24 rooms are works by Italian artists like, Andrea Mantegna, Piero Della Francesca, Cosmè Tura, and Giovanni Bellini. Also exhibited are Giorgione, Tintoretto, Paris Bordone, and Moretto Da Brescia and many others providing an opportunity to see how Venetian art developed from the 14th to the 18th centuries.
