In 1956 the Fortuny Museum was donated to the city of Venice by Henriette, Mariano Fortuny’s widow. Fortuny was a friend and colleague of D’Annunzio, a set designer, inventor, fabric manufacturer, and photographer. This Gothic palace was converted into a studio for painting, photography, set design and the creation of fabrics and the house does have the look and feel of a theatre set. The furnishings, objects, textiles and ornaments are a mix of art nouveau and art deco styles. Mariano Fortuny created objects, which are still being produced, but the originals can be seen here.
