Ever since the 13th Century this island has belonged to Franciscan monks. It was named after St. Francis who arrived here around 1200 and who stayed for a month. The island can only be reached by boat and visitors can do this from Burano. The frescoes record the visit of St. Francis .There is a definite calmness and tranquillity on the island and the park, and this is perhaps above all else the reason why people like to come here.
