The Chiesa di S. Stefano (Church of St Stephen) was built in the 13th Century by hermits. The church has seen a number of restorations and much of the present structure is the result of work carried out during the 15th and the 20th centuries. The interior, with its cloisters and vestry, is home to paintings by Tintoretto as well as an impressive monument to Bartolomeo D’Alviano, the last commander in chief of the Republic. The church’s campanile is a well-known sight in Venice.
