The Church of SS. Redentore was planned by A Palladio and was erected between 1570 and 1580. Unfortunately in 1576 the population was hit by a deadly plague that decimated the city. The Doge then dedicated the church to the Redeemer in return for mercy on his people. This could also explain why the church has such a vast length leading up to the altar. The statue of Faith rising above the façade can only be seen from the canals. During religious festivals, the church is joined to the opposite side of the Giudecca canal with a bridge of boats.
