The church is the sole building on the San Giorgio Maggiore island. It was constructed in 1566 and built inside an existing Benedictine monastery from 1000 A.D. The church’s interior is particularly bright and covered with paintings by artists, Carpaccio and Tintoretto such as ’L’ultima Cena’ and the ’Raccolta della Manna’. There is a superb view of San Marco from the campanile and visitors who come here on Sunday mornings will hear Mass with Gregorian chants.
