The Castello di Masnago, fortified during the Middle Ages, has a massive 12th Century tower and a 15th Century wing. The Castiglioni family were responsible for the castle’s two cycles of frescoes, one in the lower hall which shows scenes on Lake Varese, and the other in the upstairs hall depicting female figures, symbols of vice and virtue. The castle has a large park with a remarkable Baroque staircase. Today it is home to the Contemporary art Gallery.
