The Galleria of the San Marco Basilica has on display many different works of art, tapestries and documents relating to the history of the Basilica. Perhaps the finest part of the whole collection is the bronze horses. Copies of these can be seen on the outside terrace. Even the experts can’t agree about the bronzes’ dates with wide opinions ranging from the 3rd Century B.C. to the 4th Century A.D. The horses restored in the 1970s having originally been stolen by Napoleon and brought to Italy.
