This is one of the largest churches in Venice, begun by Dominican friars at the end of the 14th Century. The huge Gothic structure was completed in the 15th Century and dedicated to John and Paul, thought to be fictitious saints rather than the two apostles. There are 25 chief magistrates buried here and beautiful monuments by Nicolo Marcello, Pietro Lombardo and Pietro Mocenigo which occupy the entire left side of the entrance. Also very impressive are the monument erected to Andrea Vendramin, and the paintings by Veronese and Piazzetta.
