The Ateneo di San Basso was built in 1076 making it one of the oldest churches in Venice. It was restored after suffering fire damage in 1105 and again in 1661. The church has been in private hands as well as being used as a marble and sculpture base by the Fabbriceria di San Marco. In the 1950s it was re-developed as a conference hall. Today it is used as a venue for classical music and visitors enjoy hearing the likes of Mozart and Vivaldi played in this historic place.
