The African museum was founded in 1938 and shows the culture and daily life of the African populations. There was a big shake up in 1996, when the display sections were completely changed. At one time it was a classical ethnographical museum, which although commended for its interesting displays, was considered a little ‘sterile’. Now it is a centre for communication and intercultural dialogue and because of its restructuring and the use of modern multimedia techniques, the museum now offers a positive and unusual picture of the African continent.
