The popular area of Viale delle Belle Arti is located in the Valle Giulia. It begins in the square with the same name and ends in the Largo Picasso just inside the Villa Borghese, having crossed several small squares. It is a large open area and houses many different buildings, like institutes, academies, cultural centres and important museums. The most important of these is the Museo Etrusco di Villa Giulia at the beginning of the avenue, along with the National Gallery of Modern Art. The road became famous following student protests in 1968 when the university buildings were occupied.
