Giovanni Battista Ferroglio built the Theatre Carignano in 1787, after the previous brick and wooden buildings were burnt down. It is situated inside the Palazzo Morelli opposite a building of the same name. As seen by the various rows of stalls and the gilt stuccoes inside, the hall is in the 18th Century style. There are some 19th Century features, because of several restorations by Carlo Sada, which includes a 19th Century fresco on the ceiling. Vittorio Alfieri put on his first tragedy ‘Cleopatra’ here in 1775 and a bust comemorates him on the façade.
