The Teatro Miela in Trieste was established by the Bonaventura Foundation which still runs the theatre today. The theatre is the only one in the city offering a programme of contemporary art. There is theatre, music, cinema and figurative works and it also produces works of its own. It is heavily involved with projects from the local schools and performs ethnic music concerts. Converted from an old cinema, the theatre was also a gym for dockworkers. Most prominent is the series of Latin American cinema that is held every October, as is the Alpe Adria cinema held yearly.
