The church of St Ansano and St Isacco was consecrated in 1143. In the 18th Century the upper part of the church – dedicated to St Ansano – was rebuilt by Antonio Dotti, a Milanese architect. The church has a fresco of the Virgin by Spagna and passages, that incorporate what was once the steps leading up to the Roman temple, now take you down to the crypt dedicated to Sant’Isacco. Here are frescoes from the 11th and 12th centuries showing St Isaac who was a Syrian hermit with a large following in Spoleto.
