The village of Schignano sits on a hill overlooking Lake Como and is surrounded by the Comana, Sasso Gordona, Crocione and San Zeno mountains. Divided into several areas, Occagno is the busiest and has pretty squares. Other areas include Perla, Vesbio, Posa, Chignolo, Almanno, Retegno, Auvrascio and Molobbio. Walking here is popular with visitors; the ‘vetta del Sasso Gordona’ having one of the most spectacular panoramic views. Schignano is also famous for its carnival which takes place in the main piazza and is based on contrasting wooden masks - beauty and ugliness.
