The Santuario e casa di Santa Caterina was actually the house where St. Catherine of Siena lived. The sanctuary dates from 1464 and is now dedicated to meditation. The Saint was born Catherine Benincasa in this building, although the space around it did not originally belong to it. It had been acquired because of the rise in popularity to the devotion to her memory. The restorations that have taken place over the years have altered the building’s original appearance.
