The present church of Santa Maria in Camuccia was built in the 13th Century over the original 7th - 8th Century building. At the entrance are two Roman columns and inside there are some 14th and 15th Century frescoes. Perhaps the most interesting thing here is the 12th Century wooden statue of a Madonna with Child which is very like that of the 12th Century one in the Dahlem Museum of Berlin. There is also a collection of Roman artefacts which were discovered during excavations here.
