The church of Santa Maria di Provenzano has a plain exterior but is nevertheless built on a grand scale. It was finished in 1594, the architect being Flaminio del Turco who chose to design the interior in a Baroque style. The church is aisle-less and has an attractive octagonal cupola. On the high altar there is a relief depicting the Madonna. A prize banner (or drappellone) is kept in the church. When a race takes place the banner is taken to Piazza del Campo and awarded to the winning ‘contrada’.
