The church of Santa Maria della Consolazione in Todi was begun in 1508 but not completed until 1607. Some say it was the work of the architect, Bramante, who built St Peter’s in Rome. The design of this magnificent church is square with a great dome and four apses around. The Greek cross plan interior, like the doorways, is Baroque. Here are fine statues of the apostles and in an apse is a revered fresco depicting the Madonna della Consolazione.
