Baldassarre Peruzzi renovated the church of San Niccolò al Carmine that dates back to the 14th century. It would have been difficult for the Carmelite monks to conceive that it would eventually be used as a university. However, this is exactly what has happened, because a large part of the monastery is occupied by the Department of Chemistry. With enchanting cloisters and its one nave, the church still retains its 14th Century structure, which possesses a second altar, and contains the magnificent San Michele by Domenico Beccafumi.
