Near the Augustus Arch lies the medieval hamlet of San Giovanni and here stands an attractive church of the same name. It is one of the oldest churches in Rimini, having been built in the early 14th Century. It was renovated between 1767 and 1772 from a design by Gaetano Cupioli, and until the order was suppressed in 1797, it was home to the Carmelites. The interior has some beautifully ornate stucco work by Antonio Trentanove from the 18th Century and ‘Martirio di San Gaudenzio’, a painting by Soleri.
