San Giovanni in Tuba
San Giovanni al Timavo Duino Aurisina, Trieste 34013 - Italy

Map

The Church of San Giovanni in Tuba is located near the city gates, in the Duino-Aurisina district and can be easily reached by car or bus. It is sited close to the start of the Timavo River that is famous for the long and mysterious underground pathway. In the church you will see the remains of the palaeo-christian basilica, and the mosaic floor with octagonal pieces, resembles that of Aquileia, a town outside Trieste that is famous for its Roman remains dating back to the 5th Century. Its sacredness is indicated by votive epigraphs to Saturn, Hercules, and Spes Augusta.
