The Church of San Crispino e Crispiniano is documented in 1515 by a Papal visit, when the church was the seat of ‘confraternità dei calzolai’ (confraternity of shoe makers). The church is sometimes known by the ancient name of Santa Maria Piccola dei Calzolai or Santa Maria della Pieta. It is said that the church is more ancient, although the foundation of the confraternity dates to September 30th 1537. Around 1682 and towards the end of the 17th Century the building underwent improvements and alterations after a contribution made by the brothers of the fraternity.
