The lovely church of San Claudio dates from the 12th Century and can be easily reached. From the Belvedere it’s possible to descend to the plain via the narrow Via dei Cappuccini and then along Via Fontevecchia to the church. This building is considered one of the town’s most interesting churches architecturally. It has managed to hold on to its Romanesque decoration and layout; the façade is plain and simple but is topped by the original belfry. It was almost completely destroyed by an earthquake in 1997 and has been restored.
