The Sala Tripcovich, a beautiful building which was once a coach station, was designed by the local architect Umberto Nordio. It is sited close to the railway station and was abandoned for some time before its pavilion was renovated and used as the Teatro Lirico Verdi. The restoration was complete in record time and renamed ‘Sala Tripcovich’ in honour of its patron who made the renovation possible. The façade of the building is richly decorated with dark red fresco work, which has become a familiar site in Trieste.
