Sala Comacina, Lake Como - Italy

Map

The small village of Sala Comacina on the western shore of Lake Como sits at the foot of Monte Costone. On the Puncia headland is Villa Rachele. It was owned by Cesare Beccaria and many famous literary figures, such as Alessandro Manzoni and Cesare Cantů, stayed here. Isola Comacina is Lake Como’s only island. This lies opposite the village and can be reached by boat. The Church of S. Bartolomeo is a Romanesque structure which was rebuilt in the 17th and 18th centuries. There are paintings here from the Luinesca School, a Baroque wooden altar and frescoes by the Carloni.
