Built around 1200, this church is one of the oldest in Rimini. The style is Romanesque-Gothic but today all that remains of the original building is the bell tower and the apse, the rest has been skilfully reconstructed. Although it had been dedicated to St John the Evangelist, because it was built by Augustinian hermits it is also known locally as the church of St Augustine. Important frescoes found here after the earthquake of 1916 are now held in the city museum. A large crucifix matching one painted by Giotto for the Malatesta Temple is kept in the baptistery.
