The ancient Roman Theatre in Turin is an important example from when the city was a Roman colony. It dates from the 1st Century of the Empire but only part of the great arena is visible – the rest is partly covered by a new wing of the Royal Palace. The theatre measures 120m in diameter and on the inside, the tiers of the cavea, the orchestra and part of the rectangular enclosure that includes porticoes, behind the stage area.
