The remains of a Roman theatre were uncovered here, dating from the 1st Century AD. It was thought at first that it was the remains of public baths even though there was a plan of the theatre by Renaissance architect Peruzzi. It was later confirmed by Spoleto archaeologist G. Sordini that it was an amphitheatre. The structure was found in 1954 and the missing seating has now been replaced so that the venue can be used for concerts and ballets. The structure is impressive and has many arches and tunnels intact as well as a marble pavement.
