The amphitheatre was built in the 2nd Century AD but was sacked by the barbarians even before the bomb damage of WWII. It was once one of the largest arenas in Emilia Romagna. Now what remains are the walls, entrances to the balconies and one of the main entrances. It would have measured 76x47 metres with seating for around 12,000 spectators. The arena was a venue for gladiator fights as well as fights between animals and men.
