The Roman amphitheatre in Terni is situated quite close to the Duomo. The 1st Century AD structure, although described as a ruin, is perhaps the best preserved of all Terni’s Roman sites. It was used as a quarry and later structures were built over it. In the mid-19th Century it was re-discovered and excavation work began in earnest in the 1930s. The perimetrical ellipse and the central arena are still well visible and during the summer months the amphitheatre is used for cultural and recreational events.
