The Postal Museum (Museo Postale e Telegrafico della Mitteleuropa) was opened in 1997 in the current Post Office in Trieste. This museum, one of the few of its kind in Italy, displays relics and documents from the last century with some dating back to the 18th Century. It has been divided into several sections dedicated to postal cartography, and displays a number of period maps that prove the existence of an organised post service in 1800. The postal section displays items like old equipment for disinfecting letters, post boxes, stamps and a reconstructed office in the centre of the room.
