Porta Palatina is located along the old Roman walls of the city and is one of the finest examples of Roman wall gates. These gates consist of two great towers, each with 16 sides and a square base in brick. A windowed lookout for the guards would once have joined the towers by means of a rectangular two-storey building. What remains of the gate is still impressive and on the inside, visitors can still see parts of the courtyard and the Roman paving.
