The Porta Nuova stands to the south of the town, at the end of the Via di Roma and at the beginning of the road which leads to Rimini and is considered one of the most beautiful gates of Ravenna. Built in 1580 and given the name Porta Gregoriana in honour of Pope Gregorio XII. It has been decorated with rich marble taken from Port’Aurea, that had been demolished. As well as the barrel vault there are two columns of grey granite with Corinthian capitals supporting a marble trabeation.
