The Porta Gaza is to the south of town, near the present Circ. al Molino. It’s sited where the primitive Roman town walls once were before being destroyed and would have led directly to the tower of Porta Salustra. First mention was around 1186, but it’s believed to be much older. What’s visible today is the restoration work done after the Second World War. It’s built mainly of brick with the exception of some marble decorations, the frames of the attic, the two lateral wings, capitals, Springer Stones and the keystones of the arch bearing monograms of Mary and Jesus.
